    November 2013

This is an exciting time of year as we gear-up for our annual student recital!  Please be sure that all the times listed above are in your schedule.  If any of the times conflict with a regularly scheduled lesson we will reschedule your lesson since it is important that we not miss any contact time during these final two weeks.  You will find on the second page of this news letter more information on dress and other pertinent recital-day information.  If you have any questions or if I have left anything out, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

The annual recital is a very important part of my pedagogical approach to teaching music.  It is critical that students strive for their very best performance and it is a great time for families and friends to share in the experience.  Most importantly, I believe music is communal and we only truly “find ourselves” musically when we share with others.

Recital Dress

Students should be dressed nicely as they would be attending a fancy event.  Please no T-shirts, jeans, or sneakers.  Dresses, dress shirts, and even ties are are appropriate.

Arrival

Students should arrive at 1 p.m. on November 17 so all the instruments can be tuned before our 1:30 start time.  The library and the auditorium open at 1 p.m. so do not plan to arrive earlier than that.

In the concert (students)

Instruments will be placed on stage with end pins in.  When the student before you goes on stage, please move to sit near the stage so you can quickly pick up your instrument, walk to the chair on stage, bow, sit, check your tuning and begin.  These steps should take no more than a 30 seconds!  After you perform: stand, bow, return your instrument to the back of the stage, put your end pin in, and take a seat in the audience (quickly!).

In the concert (audience)

Please give the performers your full attention.  Continue applauding until the student has finished bowing before and after her/his performance.  Students- remember that this means you when you are not performing!

Reception

A reception will follow the performance in the lobby.  If you can bring some refreshment, please email me and let me know what you are bringing.  Thanks!
